Earlier this week Microsoft released a new testing Build of the Kinect for Windows software development kit. Kinect for Windows SDK continues to be in development at this point in time, and what the Redmond company actually offered was a Beta Refresh of the developer resources, and nothing more.

Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh is currently available for download free of charge to all devs that want to build projects leveraging the natural user interface (NUI) sensor and the Windows operating system.

It’s important to note that the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh is only available under a non-commercial license, an aspect which will not change throughout 2011.

Following the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh availability, the software giant also offered a video designed to provide insight into the evolution of the software development kit.

“Now that the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta 1 Refresh is live, we had a chance to talk to Rob Relyea a Principal Program Manager Lead on the Kinect for Windows SDK team to talk about what changed in the Beta 1 Refresh,” the company said.

Make sure to check out the video embedded below for details about the changes introduced into the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh Build.

“I know, it took us a while to get the SDK out but now it’s in beta we’re iterating quickly based on feedback from the community. The refresh includes stability improvements (i.e. less crashing) and refinements to some of the API’s,” Microsoft’s Steve Clayton added.

The first refresh to the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta is just that, an initial update to the technology, according to the software giant.

Microsoft plans to ship at least one other Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh until the end of this year, although a specific availability deadline wasn’t shared with the public.
