Microsoft's new Kinect peripheral for the Xbox 360 will go on to outsell Sony's new PlayStation move peripheral for its PlayStation 3, at least according to GameStop senio vice president of merchandising and marketing, Bob McKenzie.

The upcoming holiday season will be a fierce battle ground for Sony and Microsoft, as both companies launched new motion control peripherals for their own consoles, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively.

The two companies already released their own opinions on their rival's technology, and now GameStop, one of the largest game retailers in the world, has chimed in with its own opinion.

According to McKenzie, Kinect is shaping up to be this holiday season's best seller, at least judging after a week since the peripheral's launch.

"I'd say right now Microsoft's Kinect is looking to be the winner of the two for us. We're very happy with the sell through over the weekend. It has met our expectations and actually exceeded our initial forecasts," McKenzie revealed.

The GameStop exec then went on to share his own experience with the two systems, saying that Kinect is much better geared to new families with young children.

"I do have them both obviously and the Move sports bundle is a great option," he added, "but I knew for my family - with an eight-year-old daughter and ten-year-old boy - that Kinect was really going to be the thing that was more geared towards my household."

While Sony boasts selling over 2.5 million Move units, 1.5 million in Europe and another million in the U.S., Microsoft has just raised its sales estimates for the Kinect this year from 3 to 5 million units.

It's still too early to tell which system is winning, but expect one heck of a fight this holiday season.
