Microsoft's new Kinect motion detection peripheral will be the biggest thing in gaming next year, at least according to the company itself, which revealed that the device would "blow people's minds" in 2011.

As we're nearing the end of the year, gaming companies are optimistic about 2011, and have already started making bold predictions for the next 12 months.

Microsoft is no exception, as its director of Xbox and Entertainment for the UK, Stephen McGill, said that Kinect was going to really amaze people the next year.

"We've got a brilliant line-up for 2011 but it's ultimately all about Kinect. Kinect is going to blow people's minds. They're [already] buying it, but we've got a line-up of Kinect games that will blow people away."

Talking about the 2010, McGill attributed the strong sales experienced by the Xbox 360 to multiple factors, including the incredible games launched for it.

"It's also about great entertainment and that's another key factor for us," McGill added. "We were the first company - and the best company, I think - to offer regular updates to our service so you don't have to keep on buying new bits of hardware."

"Every few months we've been doing new services such as introducing movies and music so we continue to evolve."

The company recently launched the Kinect peripheral for the Xbox 360, and the device already sold more than 2.5 million units, despite the fact that only a handful of titles have been released for it, mostly oriented to casual gamers.

The company did promise that more hardcore-oriented games would be released next year, in order to draw in the serious gamers that already had an Xbox 360 console due to games like Halo, Gears of War or Call of Duty.

As such, expect Microsoft to pour all of its resources into the motion detection device and the Xbox 360 next year.
