After many people expressed their mixed feelings while playing, or at least seeing gameplay footage of its Kinect Star Wars title, Microsoft has made an official statement, saying that the game controlled only through the player’s motions, is designed to appeal to all Star Wars fans, not just core gamers.

Lots of Xbox 360 owners who got the Kinect only to gather dust because there weren’t enough “hardcore” games for it eagerly awaited Kinect Star Wars. Even after a delay last year, in order to allow the experience to be polished, plenty of people were still excited.

Sadly, after seeing actual gameplay footage that showed off, besides actual Jedi duels, things like dance contests or pod racing, interest in the title dropped considerably.

In order to clear things up now that Kinect Star Wars has been released this week, Microsoft’s Senior Product Manager Glenn Gregory talked with MCV about the preconceptions surrounding the game.

Basically, he believes that the experience attracts all Star Wars fans and isn’t targeted directly at hardcore gamers.

"This is a game for anybody that is a Star Wars fan," Gregory said. "It's not The Old Republic, it's not a game for core gamers that want to experience that kind of thing. It's a great experience for people who love Star Wars like myself and want to share it with their families.

The motions required to control the game add to the experience and really make players feel a part of the Star Wars universe, according to the Microsoft director.

"When you look at the Jedi in Episode 1, they are not just waving their wrists around," he added. "There's full body combat, lightsabers, force powers, and they are jumping and being acrobatic. And that is really a fun thing to do with Kinect."

After seeing Kinect Star Wars in action, what do you think about Microsoft’s game? Is it worthy of the Star Wars name or does it further desecrate it?
