Sony has once again chimed in its opinion about the upcoming Kinect peripheral for the Xbox 360, as Dr. Richard Marks, the man behind titles like the EyePet or the EyeToy, called it a pretty cumbersome device.

Marks, Sony's Research & Development boss, who worked on titles mentioned above and the new PlayStation Move motion control system, appreciated the Kinect for the new experience it will deliver to gamers on the Xbox 360.

“I totally agree that there is this magical feeling with using your hands to select something,” said Marks.

At the same time though, he said that the whole experience will become pretty tiresome, and users will be start wanting a regular controller back into their hands.

“But that feeling wears off pretty quickly, and it becomes a pretty cumbersome way to do things.”

This isn't Marks' first statement about the Kinect, as he revealed a few weeks ago that buttons, as seen on the PlayStation Move, can't be replaced completely with a gesture-based system like the Kinect.

"Buttons are irreplaceable as an input device. Too many buttons are overwhelming, but one single action button is very powerful feeling. For core games you really do need a set of buttons to quickly choose things. Trying to replace buttons with gestures doesn't work very well," Marks revealed.

The PlayStation Move motion control peripheral has been launched recently for the PlayStation 3, under the guidance of Dr. Marks, and has already sold quite a lot of units.

Kinect, meanwhile, will be officially launched on November 4, and, according to Microsoft, will completely surpass the launches of the PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and even its own Xbox 360 in terms of scale and sales.

We've heard a lot of debates over which of the two systems is the best, but only time and sales numbers will tell which company made the right move (pun not intended).
