Microsoft is one of the companies interested in developing wearable technology and a new report states that the tech giant has already taken the necessary measures to make the first steps into this part of the industry.

The Verge writes via unnamed sources that Alex Kipman, who has been in charge of several Xbox and Kinect projects at Microsoft, has received a new responsibility within the company, as Microsoft’s board wants to focus more on wearable devices.

It turns out that Kipman will look into multiple project ideas that could bring us the first wearable gadgets developed by Microsoft and running Windows.

At the same time, one of the new tasks for Kipman is to work together with the operating system unit in order to bring Windows on smaller devices, which could be an indication that smart watches and glasses running Windows are indeed on the tablet right now.

Of course, there are no details available at this point, but according to some previous reports, Microsoft is planning to invest heavily in wearable gadgets, including smart watches and a rival for Google Glass.

As the aforementioned source notes, Julie Larson-Green, currently in charge with the devices unit at Microsoft, hinted earlier this year that wearable gadgets developed by Microsoft is indeed on the way, without providing any other specifics.

“Sensors are going to become a big part of how you think about things. So some of the things we've been talking about — you see all these fitness devices that people wear on their wrists and they do some interesting things. What's the extension of that?” Julie Larson-Green said.

“Just as the mouse was an invention, touch was an invention, there will be the next new way to interact. And that's why we've been focusing on natural user interface for a while, working on that.”
