As easy as running a custom MP3 file with some special ID3 tags

You may not find an Android-based OS in the Kindle Touch or anything more than some basic hardware for this matter of fact, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t jailbreak your Touch to run custom code on it.

The process is extremely simple as it only requires you to run an MP3 file on the Kindle Touch.

The file, which was built by developer Yifan Lu, actually includes some custom ID3 tags that take advantage of a special function in the Touch OS to send any shell commands as root to the e-Reader.

Sadly, you can’t do much with a jailbroken Kindle Touch as there is no custom software written for it (the 4th-gen Touch uses a new OS), but this is expected to change in the near future when developers will start building new code.

Until then, make sure to take a look at the video enclosed above to see just how easy it is to jailbreak a Kindle Touch.
