Verizon lowers their price tags

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has recently lowered the price tag for two of its recently released devices, namely the Kin One and Kin Two. These social networking mobile phones from Microsoft are now available for purchase from the wireless services provider for $29 and $49, for Kin One and Two, respectively, upon the signing of a contract agreement with the company.

This is not the first time the two devices enjoy price cuts, as Best Buy has had Kin One available for purchase for free for quite a while now, while Kin Two has been priced at $49 with the retailer. Interestingly enough, although the two Kin phones were launched on the market with focus on a young audience, greatly interested in having an active social networking life, it seems that the sales of these devices are quite low.

Both phones can be purchased from Verizon upon the signing of a contract agreement on a $29 per month or higher data plan, something that brings the total cost of ownership on par with the one for the carrier's devices in the DROID line. Not to mention that the capabilities of Kin are far more reduced than what Windows Phone 7 should bring into the equation. All in all, other smartphones in Verizon's lineup, including some older than Kin, are selling better than these phones, it seems.

In related news, we learn that Verizon is getting ready to offer the owners of a Kin One or Kin Two device the possibility to enjoy enhanced capabilities with their devices via an upcoming software update. There are no specific details available on what the update would actually include, though it seems that the solution's roll-out sometime in “mid-summer” has been confirmed. In other words, the two social networking devices from Microsoft should enjoy an enhanced software in a couple of weeks, in case all goes according to the original plan.
