Kanye West was harshly criticized when he started dating reality star Kim Kardashian, but to his credit, he never paid attention to that: the man fell in love and he stuck by his lady, who, in his eyes, is the most gorgeous, smartest and most talented woman on the face of the planet.

Being with Kim has changed him for the better, and nowhere is that more apparent than during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the other day. See the video below for visual confirmation.

Calmer, happier, more creative

In his dealings with the media and his business partners before Kim walked into his life, Kanye was a bit of a rage monster. He describes that period in his life as his own version of his “terrible twos” because he now knows where to look for comparison: his daughter with Kim, North West.

“[She] wants to express herself, and she just doesn't have the words for it. And, for me, there were so many things I wanted to do with film and clothing, and I just didn't have the words or the resources,” he tells Ellen.

Married life has changed him, he says with happiness: he is now calmer, happier, more willing to make compromises and quicker to understand when it’s time for him to shut up. Married life and fatherhood also made him understand that it’s stupid to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results.

He’s referring to his forays into fashion and how his creativity was being stifled because people in a position of power would not let him be creative and successful in something else than music. Kanye credits Adidas for finally allowing him to show that he could be as good as he is as a rapper in fashion too.

More babies, more professional achievements

Kanye is just getting started in the industry: he tells Ellen he wants to be creative “for humanity,” because he believes he can really have a lasting and life-altering impact on the world.

He also wants to have more babies and he and Kim are trying. You can see his face change whenever Kim’s name comes up, and he breaks into a huge grin though, as per his own words, he doesn’t smile because he saw in 19th century paintings that all people looking regal didn’t smile. Smiling isn’t “cool,” he said not long ago.

Whenever Kim’s name comes up, Kanye’s famous ego disappears. In this interview too, one second he’s talking about doing stuff “for humanity,” but his “mission” seems to lose importance when the topic of more children comes up.

Kim may have changed Kanye at home, but she also changed him as a public figure. For once, the narcissistic, annoying rage monster comes across as an adorable man who’s head over heels in love with his wife and daughter. It’s a much welcome change, especially for Kanye.
