Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been harshly ridiculed online for naming their daughter North West (allegedly, they plan on calling her “Nori”) but a new report suggests it was all for nothing, because they never meant it as a directional moniker.

Though she laughed off Jay Leno’s suggestion of calling her firstborn North because it would go perfectly with Kanye’s family name, West, Kim and her rapper beau eventually settled for it.

TMZ is now saying that they never thought of the name as a directional one but rather as an expression of the deep love they have for each other, of which little Nori is living proof.

In other words, it’s inspirational.

“They chose the name North because they see it as a metaphor for ‘up,’ telling friends, ‘What's North of North? Nothing.’ Translation... nothing better,” the celebrity publication writes, citing sources close to the couple.

“We're told the duo believes baby North is their highest point together as a couple... the pinnacle of the relationship... and they consider her their ‘North Star’,” the report adds.

If true, this would rubbish an earlier report saying that Kim and Kanye included the name on the list more as a joke than a serious suggestion, but Kim insisted they used it when Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief at fashion bible Vogue, told her what an amazing idea it was.

Kim and Kanye have been keeping a very low profile since she gave birth. In fact, for someone who documents every minute of her life on social media and, when she doesn’t, the paparazzi do it for her, Kim has been uncharacteristically silent.

She is thought to be “in hiding” at a secret location she and Kanye rented, where they will live until renovations on their mansion are complete.
