In recent months, socialite, television personality and fashion designer Kim Kardashian has also been weighing a public battle against rigid standards of beauty enforced in the industry. Not only has she agreed to take part in a photoshoot that was taken out in print without retouching, but she’s also done a photospread for Life & Style magazine in which she goes completely makeup-free, Contact Music informs.

One photo from the shoot is already out and, though it’s clear that some very smart lighting and angles have still been used, Kim does appear not to have any makeup on. In agreeing to have her picture taken like this, the star hopes she will draw attention to how beauty has almost nothing to do with appearances, let alone with makeup, and more with confidence. Come to think of it, this is what Jessica Simpson has also been saying all along.

“As much as it’s fun to glam up, the most important thing is to be comfortable in your own skin – with or without makeup,” Kim tells the magazine, as cited by the aforementioned outlet. The important thing is to be happy with yourself no matter what and not rely on makeup to define you. “Makeup is fun, but it’s just another accessory. I’m happy with myself, and this is who I am,” the star explains.

As we also told you on separate occasions, Jessica Simpson too has been trying to make the same point in the past weeks, even launching a show centering on the concept of beauty and how it varies from country to country, and culture to culture. The singer agreed to pose without any makeup as well, this time in women’s magazine Marie Claire, to shatter the idea that women have to meet certain standards in order to be accepted.

“I think people are looking at what models look like. I am not a model. I am 5-foot-3. I don’t look like a model. That is not my profession. Women dress more for other women. I think that they want to be in shape more for other women. I want a man to look at me and think I look good,” Simpson once said about how people’s expectations as regards her looks (and her weight in particular) are not grounded in reality.
