Because everything she touches turns to gold, Kim Kardashian’s mobile game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which sees the player reach A-lister status with help from Kim and money from their own pockets, is her most successful endeavor ever. However, it’s not free of controversy.

Said to make about $200 million (€149.36 million) by the end of the year, of which Kim will get a little under 50%, the game is free to install and play, but if you really want to be great at it, you have to spend money through in-app purchases of clothes, shoes, and the like.

What this means is that many of the kids who played the game could not resist buying stuff, so their parents had the most unpleasant surprise when they saw the purchases charged on their credit card bill.

Sitting down for an interview with Matt Lauer for The Today Show on NBC, Kim defends her game, saying that it’s meant for entertainment, not to be taken seriously. Obviously, you don’t really become famous if you’re good at it, except in the world in the game.

“In the game, you definitely see that it’s just fun and it’s not really serious. You pick your friends, you pick your clothes. It’s just a fun little game, kind of like when people get into Candy Crush so much. Like, is it good to be obsessed with Candy? It’s just something fun to do. All games, I think, are just entertaining,” Kim says.

As for those parents who are angry that their kids went overboard with in-app purchases, well, perhaps they should have been more careful, Kim adds.

“You just have to make sure that your parental controls are all set,” she explains. “I think you just have to be responsible, and don’t have your credit card linked to where your kid can just spend if they want to, or ask permission."

Kim would not confirm if she really stands to make these kinds of figures as mentioned above from the game, but she admits that even she was taken by surprise at the reception it got.

On a different note, Kim raves about her husband Kanye West and explains what married life has been like for them, talks a bit about their daughter North, and promotes her upcoming book of selfies, “Selfish.” Yes, it’s really happening.

Some minutes later, she also stopped by Hoda and Kathy Lee, where she basically said the same things all over again, but with less focus on the game and more on North.

Apparently, her 1-year-old daughter is already getting good at posing for the paparazzi so, whenever she sees a camera, she adopts the duck face and the vacant stare she must have observed in her mom so many times. After all, Kim does take a lot of selfies.
