Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the new “American Icon”

In what could very well be considered a sacrilege by purists in Hollywood, reality star and celebrity extraordinaire Kim Kardashian has just been compared with Marilyn Monroe by the publishers of her new selfie book.

Before we go any further, we should clarify the notion of “selfie book.” You would think that it was a book aimed to explain the whole world-sweeping phenomenon of taking selfies, but no, it's actually a book just full of selfie photos that Kim Kardashian has taken in the last month or so.

The literary value of such a book is close to zero, but that didn't stop the publishing company Rizzoli to write a bombastic review, as if the book were the next in line for the Nobel Prize for Literature or the Pulitzer Prize, according to Entertainmentwise.

The publishers claim that the book contains Kim's favorite selfies

They promise the book will contain “some of Kim's favorite selfies in one volume – from her favorite throwback images to current ultra-sexy glam shots.” But that is just the beginning. Eager to pump up their star and possibly boost sales, the official description also puts Kim up there with the greatest Hollywood icons, the likes of Marilyn Monroe.

“Hailed by many (including Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci) as the modern-day personification of Marilyn Monroe, Kim has become a true American icon. Widely regarded as a trailblazer of the ‘selfie movement’ - a modern-day self-portrait of the digital age - Kim has mastered the art of taking flattering and highly personal photos of oneself,” reads the description.

We are willing to bet big money that you had no idea Kim started the selfie craze and that she was about as glamorous as Monroe, which, according to the publishers, immediately elevates her to the rank of “American Icon.”

“Selfish” Kim Kardashian stands to make a killing with her new book

The title of the book is really revealing in what Kim thinks about herself. In fact the book is called “Selfish” and it features a bedroom-faced Kim Kardashian looking demurely at her phone's camera, with puckered lips and half-closed eyes, while wearing a full face of make-up like all good divas do when going to bed.

It should come as no surprise that Kim is coming out with a selfie book. She is famous for turning every little thing in her life into a money-making industry, and since she literally takes thousands of selfies every day, it was only natural that such a book would be in print.

Earlier this year, it emerged that she took as many as 1,200 selfies a day during the family's trip to Thailand. So we know for a fact that she had a lot of material to go on for this book. “Selfish” will be released in bookstores on April 28, 2015, and it will more than likely be a hit, since people can't seem to get enough of her these days.
