Eric Boltjes, a lead designer at Guerrilla Games, says that the multiplayer mode in the new Killzone: Shadow Fall is designed to focus heavily on classes and solid use of their special abilities will be one of the keys for success.

The developer tells VG247 that, “the Scout is for the player that wants to strike from the shadows: short range and very long range. He has specific abilities and specific weapons tailored to that type of play-style. We also have the Assault, a run-and-gun front-line type of guy.”

The traditionally maligned Support class is designed to enhance the abilities of all other players on their team because they can deliver beacons, deploy ammo boxes and increase survivability.

The class will use medium ranged weaponry and will be able to take care of itself on the battlefield.

The multiplayer in Killzone: Shadow Fall will launch with 10 official levels from the development team, but every gamer is able to remix them using the new Warzone feature.

Eric Boltjes also says that Guerrilla Games will deliver extensive downloadable content to keep the multiplayer interesting in the long term.

According to the developer, “The good thing about this is that all these post-launch maps are free. We’re also going to release custom Warzone options and other types of expansion packs as well, to keep the community alive and to give the community what they want.”

Killzone: Shadow Fall also includes a single-player component, which takes place on a planet where Helghast and Vektan citizens need to live in close proximity, separated by just one flimsy wall.

Guerrilla Games has promised a nuanced story that includes plenty of impressive shooter set pieces.

The game is designed to show off the increased hardware power of the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

It will be launched on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe.
