Guerrilla Games has confirmed that it's going to bring forth the Intercept downloadable expansion for Killzone: Shadow Fall in June, which delivers a four-player cooperative experience in which fans must defend Hacking Uplink stations against waves of Helghast troops, while using special bonuses like jetpacks.

Killzone: Shadow Fall launched back in November of last year for the PS4, delivering a great first-person shooter experience with a novel story set in the universe created by Guerrilla Games, but also a great competitive multiplayer mode that based heavily on warzones created by regular players.

Now, for the next big DLC for the game, Guerrilla has revealed that it's bringing forth a cooperative multiplayer experience called Intercept.

"Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept places you and up to three of your friends on the elite VSA team known as Intelligence Squad Alpha. Operating behind enemy lines, your team is on a mission to intercept and relay Helghast military transmissions back to VSA headquarters," the studio said on the PS blog.

"To succeed, you’ll need to keep Helghast interlopers at bay long enough to establish a Hacking Uplink and transmit the data. Thankfully, the members of your team have all been trained in unique Combat Roles – from close-quarters Assault and mid-to-long range Marksman roles to supportive Medic and Tactician roles."

As you can imagine, working as a team is paramount to the success of your operations and players must work to build their Team Score, which in turn affects how close they are to establishing a Hacking Uplink. You can increase it by defending the uplinks and by depositing your personal score. You can even earn different bonuses, like jetpacks or artillery strikes.

However, if you lose an uplink or have to respawn after a critical injury, your team score will go down and ultimately result in a failure.

"Just like the members of Intelligence Squad Alpha, the AI-controlled Helghast enemies in Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept have their own sets of goals and Combat Roles. They will switch up tactics and angles of attack when they capture an Uplink, so you’ll need to adapt your defense strategy accordingly."

"On top of that, the enemy can call on special Helghast champions with unique abilities, based on key Killzone Shadow Fall characters. Expect to go up against some very familiar faces," the studio added.

At launch, Killzone: Shadow Fall Intercept will have four arena maps inspired by locations from the campaign.

It will be available at a cost for regular owners of the game on PS4 and free for Season Pass holders. It will also be offered as a standalone expansion later this year.
