Killzone 3 got a lot of attention yesterday at Sony's E3 conference. 3D gameplay footage was presented and a slew of other announcements about the game were made. Hermen Hulst from Guerrilla Games, Killzone's developer, got up on stage and presented the title, boasting that the 3D experience was deeply integrated in the title's development and that Killzone 3 was built from the ground up with 3D in mind.

The 3D footage was from a pre-alpha version of the title and it showed off the destructible scenery and the jetpack gameplay featured in this new installment in the franchise. The setting of the demonstration was a wide-open arctic environment, with nicely detailed floating icebergs and intense combat. Parts of the level were especially designed for jetpack combat, allowing players to find their own points of entry in the enemy's heavily fortified installations.

Two new facts about the game were also advertised. Killzone 3 will support PlayStation Move, Sony's motion controller, and will be released in February 2011. PlayStation Move controls will be available right out of the box, alongside the classical style. Thus, Killzone is the second hard-core shooter to be added on the Move games list, along with SOCOM 4.

Killzone 3 is the fourth iteration of the series and Guerrilla Games hopes it will be the best one yet. It will continue to follow the adventures of Sev, an operative, in the war between the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance and the Helghast Empire. The story of the game, this time around, will be similar to that of David and Goliath, with Sev being stranded on Helghan, the Helghast home planet. The death of their dictator has left the nation in complete turmoil, with various factions fighting for power and the protagonist being in the middle of their fire. Killzone 3 is also set to explore Helghast's culture and language, showing off whatever humanity they still retain.
