As it generates more sales

Killzone 2 is one of those games that Sony thinks will be driving people to buy a PlayStation 3 console and not an Xbox 360. So, the fact that it has managed to sell quite a few copies is not a surprise. Still, it's noteworthy that Guerrilla Games has decided to mark successful sales reports with an announcement regarding additional content for the title.

Scott Steinberg, vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, stated that Killzone 2 had “exceeded our expectations,” with the company saying that it had sold about 600,000 copies of the videogame to retailers in North America only. We'll know more about the performance of Killzone 2 when the March NPD charts come out. Steinberg added that “Killzone 2 has been the fastest SCEA PS3 title to break the 500,000 unit mark and it's also the highest selling SCEA PS3 title for the first 30 days out of launch.”

Guerrilla is set to enhance the game by creating downloadable content for Killzone 2. The first piece should arrive at the end of April and is set to bear the name Steel and Titanium, probably after the names of the two new multiplayer maps that will be part of it. The price of the DLC was not revealed, but with just two new maps offered, it will probably be just under 10 dollars.

One of the fresh maps will feature the New Sun, an ISA cruiser, where vertical fights will dominate the games, while the other map will be set on two high speed trains, with players having to be careful as they move from train to train and car to car in search of enemies.

After this first DLC pack, Guerrilla Games will seek to take some maps from the original Killzone to adapt them for the sequel, but the developers are also planning to release some new features for the game, although they have not been named.
