We're a bit dizzy too

Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment has taken a look at their press releases and thought to throw a few release dates to the news dogs to keep them satisfied for a day or two and maybe fend off unwanted attention regarding the PlayStation Network security breach.

So, they announced release dates for a few Sony games due to come out in 2008. The little known sequel Time Crisis 4 is set to become playable on April 18, and dates for Resistance 2 and for Little Big Planet are now officially set to November for the former and September for the latter.

But the interesting bit was a date for Killzone 2. The Sony published PlayStation 3 shooter is set to go head to head with Microsoft Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 2 in taking money away from gamers this next Christmas. The game is set to be a gritty, tough and very dark shooter in stark contrast to the over the top action in Gears of War. Sony is pretty interested in getting the game together and shipped somewhere before the December shopping rush hits. The late September date that was offered by Sony seemed a bit of a surprise as it's a bit early for a game that wants to get a piece of the holiday spending frenzy.

Today, the game developer, the same Guerilla Games that created the original Killzone, stepped in and corrected Sony's date. And when I say corrected I mean to say that Seb Downia, who is Quality Assurance manager for Guerilla, wrote in a forum post: "Sorry folks, as before, please take any release dates or months with a grain of salt." In other words, Sony doesn't know what it's talking about.

Then, he proceeded to indicate the fact that the developer was the only reliable source for a release date by saying that: "If we haven't announced it, it is not gospel." From now on, we'll be sure to direct any inquiries about Killzone 2 towards Guerilla Games rather than Sony.
