The carnage-focused shooter is coming out later this year

Developer Tripwire Interactive has released a batch of fresh screenshots from the bloody follow-up to 2009's hit shooter Killing Floor, giving us a preview of what's coming our way.

The zombies are back, and they're bigger and badder than they've ever been. Killing Floor 2 follows the adventures of a group of survivors in the wake of a failed corporate experiment that pretty much destroys the entire world, turning humans into bloodthirsty fiends.

The game is all about the pure and simple joy of slaughtering zombies, and the devs worked really hard to make sure that you would be able to fully enjoy your ultra-violent journey into the game, by creating the most detailed dismemberment ever seen in a video game so far.

Every simulated body has 22 joints to shoot at, so you'll be seeing a lot of vivid and over-the-top gibbing action while enjoying this dark horror-survival game. Oh, and the system is called Massive Evisceration And Trauma, or MEAT for short.

If you played Killing Floor, then you pretty much know what to expect from the sequel. If you didn't, then the screenshots speak for themselves. A lot of blood, fire, explosions and monster body parts littering everything.

Guns, blades and blood

The developers are going to great lengths to make sure that the action stays fun no matter what, throwing a different mix of zombies your way and giving you an extensive arsenal of weaponry to use against them.

The key pillars of the game's design were said to be guns, blades and blood, and you can see that the developer took things to heart. Tripwire promised to make constantly killing stuff gratifying and engaging, even more so than in the first installment.

Killing Floor 2 has no official release date for the time being, but Tripwire Interactive intends to publish it independently, sometime during 2015, on PC and PlayStation 4.
