The development team in charge of the long-term development of Killer Instinct at Microsoft announces that they will be launching a new character for the fighting title in January, named Omen, Herald of Gargos, who is designed to be a season two bonus offering and is now part of the normal eight strong line-up that gamers can expect to get access to.

The official forum thread gives just a sneak peek at his design, with more details set to be offered in the coming seven days.

The announcement explains that “Freed from possessing Jago, the Herald of Gargos has drawn enough power through his battles as Shadow Jago to manifest physically on the mortal plane. He is corruption, fear, and rage given form. He is the right hand of his master’s will. He is the sign of the darkness to come. He is shadow energy incarnate. He is Omen!”

The developers are saying that the moves that the new character will use will mix some taken from Jago and a number of new ones, with specials that take some concepts from the boss version of Shadow Jago.

The list includes: a power which allows him to cancel actions, become a shadow and move a short distance, a special kick with multiple hits, a powerful projectile move, and an attack that uses all 3 stocks.

The studio claims that zoning is the strength of Omen, challenging to play but rewarding for those who master his skills.

The stage he will use is the lair of the Shadow Tiger and new music is also being introduced, although no full story mode is planned and he has no ultimate.

Omen will be playable in the third week of January.

Killer Instinct continues to be supported

Omen might be a bonus character, but Killer Instinct will also continue to be supported in other ways.

The Shadow Jago skin will be featured in special events in the coming weeks and might even become a full-fledged character in future seasons of the fighting game.

The remaining four characters that Killer Instinct is set to introduce in the coming months are Ghost, Cinder, ARIA, and Golem.

Apparently, they will receive more attention from the development team, especially when it comes to their visual design and the layout of their stages.
