Owners of handsets running under Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system now have the possibility to download and install on their devices a new application to stay in touch with friends and family, namely the Kik Messenger.

The software was expected to arrive on Microsoft's mobile operating system for the past few months, and it is finally available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Kik is one of the most popular messaging services on mobile phones, and now that it arrived on the Windows Phone, more users will be able to enjoy its features when on the go.

The application sports a series of features that would remind some people of the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), some of those who gave it a try note.

Kik Messenger comes with Sent, Delivered and Received statuses, is said to offer fast loading times, and can be considered one of the most reliable messaging applications out there.

Some of the features the application comes with would include push notifications (Live Tile, Toast), as well as the already popular Windows Phone ‘Metro’ styling.

The new mobile application was made available for free, but it can be used to communicate only with people who already are on Kik.

The development team behind the application notes that they released the Windows Phone version of the software as a response to users' request. They took their time with releasing the application, so as to make sure that they deliver the expected experience.

“As you might guess, sometimes the process of bringing an app to a new platform can take a little longer than expected, especially since we wanted to give Windows Phone users the same crazy-fast, reliable experience that our iPhone and Android users enjoy,” the company notes.

“The good news is that we think the extra work paid off and that Kik Messenger for Windows Phone is hands-down the best smartphone messenger available on the platform. We hope you agree after giving it a try.”

Kik Messenger for Windows Phone 7 is available for download from the Windows Phone Marketplace here.
