Kiefer Sutherland, star of the “24” series, often held headlines in the past with his alcohol problem and highly inflammable temperament. This time, though, it seems his legal problems won’t stem from either of the two, as he simply came to Brooke Shields’ defense at a Met Gala after-party by knocking out designer Jack McCollough from Proenza Schouler, TMZ informs.

According to several reports, McCollough brushed past Shields and may have even intentionally knocked her over. Kiefer, who was also present at the event, saw it happen and immediately came to her defense by going straight to the designer and asking him to apologize for his rudeness. When he refused to comply, Sutherland reportedly bunted him so forcefully that he was sent instantly to the ground, causing lacerations to the face and prompting eyewitnesses to call the police.

“A police report was taken and the incident is under investigation.” the aforementioned publication informs. However, if the prosecutors decide to pursue this in court, this could further entangle matters for the actor, who is now on probation from previous misdemeanors. “Complicating it for Kiefer – he’s on probation in L.A. for a DUI, and one of the terms is that he obey all laws. No word on whether L.A. prosecutors will pursue the matter.” TMZ further says.

Strangely enough, Brooke Shields’ camp is already denying that the incident took place over her being pushed around by the designer – who, to cap it all off, is one of her longtime collaborators. In a statement also released to TMZ, a rep for Shields says no one knows what may have prompted such a violent reaction on Sutherland’s behalf but, whatever it was, it was not because he was trying to protect Shields’ honor or anything.

“Nothing happened to her.” Shields’ rep says. “Jack did nothing inappropriate. It’s not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did.” the publicist adds. Nevertheless, when asked whether the designer touched Shields in a way that may have prompted Sutherland to believe she had been hurt, the rep keeps a tight lid, saying only that they “don’t know” exactly what happened. Brooke Shields will be interviewed by the police tomorrow, so keep an eye on this space for more.
