That's a very small sum for the ability to create duplicates of whatever you scan

As far as 3D printing goes, you'll never be able to create perfect action figures at home any time soon, no matter the material and scale, because the only high-end printers capable of making accurate shapes after a 3D model are large and unseemly. That doesn't mean you should give up hope though, not with the Peachy Printer approaching.

The Peachy Printer is a project that Rinnovated Design has posted on Kickstarter, the crowd-sourcing project launching website that we all know and love.

It is a Photolithographic printer that uses a controlled beam of light to cure light sensitive resin into hard objects. The laser beam is moved along the X and Y axes (creating the shape), while a drip system controls the level of the resin on the Z axis (determines the height).

You'll first have to make a 3D model of the object you want to print though. The easiest way is to scan it with Blender. That's right, Peachy can scan objects in 3D too, even though it wasn't long ago that 3D scanners didn't really exist for the common man.

All in all, $100 / €100 doesn't seem so much money. Many people share this opinion too, seeing as how the project already made over three times the needed minimum money in just 3 days.

Speaking of which, pledges have changed, and the people behind the Peachy Printer are promising extra goodies.

On that note, don't expect a miracle. Resin doesn't lend itself to a lot of color and finesse, and this is the first iteration of the printing equipment. The first goal has already been reached (making the Peachy Printer/scanner a reality), but the second will be ongoing.

Besides improving the Printer, Rinnovated Design will only use Freedom Respecting and Open Source software and hardware. They will also keep their customers informed about political and ethical ramifications of 3D printing (they are broader than some may think) and of safety measures.

As for enhancements, the software side of things could do with some refinements (as said by the inventors themselves). Fortunately, the money has already been acquired, as we said.
