Kickstarter was a small startup once upon a time, but as it played the role of launching pad for many devices, some quirkier than others, it gained fame, leading up to a very lucrative 2013.

According to its recent look at its own finances, Kickstarter has been crowd-funding bigger and bigger successes, like Oculus Rift and the Pebble Smartwatch.

Some projects failed to get off the ground of course, but few things are perfect, and even then, it's relative.

Thus, it generated $480 million in pledges last year, coming from three million people. That means €352 million, give or take.

Compared to the $274 million / €201 million of 2012, that's quite the rise.

Of the projects that Kickstarter has funded but have not yet come to fruition, the Veronica Mars movie comes to mind.
