He'll even say your name while he's making the salad if you contribute

Internet users are known for being fans of the unusual, the crazy, and the inexplicable, and that’s the only explanation that can be given for this recently launched Kickstarter campaign where one man seeks funding to make a potato salad.

No, you did not read that wrong. In fact, the campaign was launched yesterday and has managed to attract 84 backers since then, with pledges going way beyond the $10 (€7.36) asked in the beginning, climbing to $335 (€246) at press time.

Zack Danger Brown is the author of the entire campaign, and he says that he simply wants to make a potato salad, but he hasn’t decided what kind yet.

He even stretched the goals as more money came in, saying that for $35 (€25.7) he’ll make four times as much potato salad, for $75 (€55) he’s having a pizza party and for $100 (€73.6) he’ll even try two different recipes. As time went by, Brown even added that he would buy better mayonnaise from the natural foods section if the campaign reached $250 (€184), and call a chef to get a better recipe for $300 (€220.8). The next step is to make way more potato salad and maybe even try a third recipe.

If you’re familiar with the Kickstarter concept, you probably know that there are things being offered to those who pledge money. Here too, the author proved he has a sense of humor and those backing his campaign certainly showed they have it too.

Hey, he’ll even say your name out loud while making the potato salad, which is obviously great, but there are added bonuses. For $1 (€0.73) he’ll write a “thank you” note on the website, while for two bucks (€1.47) he’ll even send a photo of him making the salad.

For $3 (€2.2), contributors will receive a bite of the potato salad, in addition to all the other things, while for $5 (€3.67) contributors will even get to choose an ingredient appropriate for the purpose.

As the levels grow, he added invitations to hang out with him in the kitchen while cooking, or to write people a potato salad-themed haiku and to carve their name into a potato that will be used for cooking.

If there’s anyone willing to chip in with $25 (€18.4) or more, he’ll send a themed hat along with everything else, which is pretty hilarious in its own right.

The project is clearly designed to be funny, but it also shows that you can get funding for pretty much anything you want.
