Even though Korea is the home of big brands, like Kia and Hyunday, it is the first time when a hybrid is part of its plans to green up its infrastructure.
The main target is to launch an eco-friendly electric vehicle, the Kia Ray EV, as big as the Ray CUV, but equipped with 50 kW electric motor powered by a 16.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, Gizmag informs.
Manufacturers guarantee a range of up to 139 kilometers on a single charge. Moreover, Korea's first EV can reach a top speed of 130 km/h.
The battery can be recharged in 6 hours by a 220 V household outlet or in only 25 minutes for a fast-charge mode. Korea seems ready to welcome the 2,500 electric cars that will be launched on the market.
So far, the country has only 500 charging points, but the number will reach 3,100 by the end of next year, due to a governmental plan.
