Two Mac apps that make typing a little easier have just received new features and enhancements, according to their respective developers. Stairways Software has released Keyboard Maestro 4.3, while Ergonis Software has rolled out Typinator 4.0. Both existing users and newcomers can grab the newly updated apps right here on Softpedia.

Keyboard Maestro

Keyboard Maestro is a powerful macro program that allows Mac users to design a custom keyboard using their own shortcuts. Using macros, they can navigate through running applications and open windows working with an unlimited number of clipboards. Best of all, you can activate them at any time you want. Keyboard Maestro 4.3 brings the following changes, according to Stairways Software:

- Device triggers from modifiers, mouse buttons, and programmable keyboards. - Execute AppleScript & Shell script can insert their results by typing or pasting. - Shell scripts no longer lock the engine up on timeouts. - AppleScripts no longer lock the engine up. - Added command-option-Q/L for Quit/Launch Engine. - do script only executes a single macro. - do script properly waits for only the macro it executes. - Do not uppercase accented characters when displaying command keys/hot keys. - While Running application trigger is no longer executed every time any macro changed. - Avoid creating OLE LINK bookmarks in Word for every copy/paste. - Default again to releasing only keys that have to be released when simulating a keystroke. - Fixed a crash when deleting a named clipboard while it is editing the name. - Attempt to select menus even if they are dimmed if "stop on failure" is turned off. - Close the first duplicate macro palette before displaying a second one.

Typinator

Typinator, developed by Ergonis Software, is a very useful tool for auto-typing text and auto-correcting typos across all Mac OS X applications that use text and / or images. The program boosts productivity by aiding the quick inserting of phrases or pictures into any type of document, while eliminating errors.

The new version (Typinator 4.0) adds a Quick Search feature for searching snippets by their abbreviation or expansion, allows sets to be globally enabled or disabled, corrects a misleading message about coverage of license keys, improves the way line breaks and tab characters are displayed within expansions in the abbreviation table, and more. The updated program also now correctly disables itself when Parallels Desktop 5 is active, and works around a problem where the app would not work in the title field of a note in Tinderbox. A bunch of bug fixes are listed in the changelog as well.
