Actor says he’s not been in communication with Sam Mendes at all

The 24th installment in the “James Bond” franchise, which sees Sam Mendes return as director, will be out in theaters in 2015 and, because many fans have put all their hopes in the rumor that Kevin Spacey will play the villain, I’m afraid I will have to break your heart today.

Actually, it will be Spacey himself to do it: speaking with the BBC, the actor denies talk that he’s in negotiations for the villain role, stressing that he doesn’t even know where and how the rumor got started in the first place.

“I don't know why people keep writing about this. I've been offered no role, I've never read a script, no, I am not doing the next James Bond movie. I don't know who started the rumor but stop it,” he says.

Well, a clue as to how the rumor started could be found in the fact that Mr. Spacey practically wrote the book on villains. Sure, Javier Bardem delivered a superb and very nuanced performance in the 2012 “Skyfall” but, from his track record, you just know that Spacey would top it. He would pretty much take the villain part and kill.it!, no doubt.

“Obviously if he (Mendes) wanted me he would've offered me the role. I don't even know if there is a role frankly,” the star continues.

Unless this is a case of oh, thou doth protest too much!, which is unlikely, it’s probably safe to rule out Kevin Spacey as the villain in the next James Bond installment. In case you’re new to the franchise, you should probably know that whoever gets to go up with Daniel Craig’s 007 agent is just as important as Craig himself.
