Kevin Smith reveals he’s lost 65 pounds in the year since Southwest Airlines threw him off a plane for being “too fat”

One year ago, filmmaker Kevin Smith, or “Silent Bob” if you will, was literally thrown off a Southwest Airlines flight for being “too fat.” In a recent interview with Joy Behar, he reveals that particular incident made him lose a lot of weight – 65 pounds, to be more exact.

Smith was very vocal about the incident at the time, saying the company had no right to ask him to get off the flight because, while “fat,” he was not really as fat as to take up two seats on the plane, which would have required him to buy two tickets.

He also said Southwest did not go about this in the most correct manner, choosing instead to put all the blame on him and refusing to take any responsibility for what happened.

Just recently, Smith sat down with Behar and, instead of promoting his latest film, he chose to talk a bit about his weight, how much of it he’s lost and how he’ll always consider himself to be “heavy” regardless of what the scales tell him.

“I spent most of my life yo-yoing in terms of weight,” he says, but, no matter how thin he gets, he will always consider himself heavy.

“I sympathize far more with heavier people than I ever will with thin – I’ll never be thin. Let’s be honest, I’ve lost 65 pounds, but nobody’s going ‘I wanna sleep with you!’ They’re just like, ‘Keep going, you look better’,” Smith says in the interview.

A year after the incident, Smith is still very much upset about it. He wishes Southwest had owned up to their mistake and he still wishes people hadn’t felt the need to call him names simply because he blogged about the incident and said “I’m fat.”

“I felt at that moment ‘I’ll lose the weight, but I’m not putting on thinner clothes.’ I’m still the same person I was when I was 65 pounds heavier,” he says of the decision he made when he was thrown off the plane.
