Kerbal Space Program is leaving Early Access next week, heading for a full launch after spending two years in limbo.

The news comes from developer Squad itself, who proudly announced the release date on the Kerbal Space Program forums, accompanied by a tiny video, the first in a series meant to showcase some of the new features added to the full edition of the game.

Kerbal Space Program is one of the most famous indie video games currently available on Valve's Early Access program, enabling users to get their hands on yet incomplete titles and have an active involvement in the development process, mainly through a copious amount of testing.

The game is notorious for blending actual science with a healthy dose of humor, as players strive to build a space-worthy craft for a race of tiny creatures that seem inspired by Despicable Me's mad doctor henchmen, the Minions.

Aside from the wacky antics of the crewmen, Kerbal Space Program has a full-fledged physics engine running below the hood, enabling realistic flight simulation to play a big role in whether your creations crash and burn before they take off, or whether they are able to rise to the occasion and pierce through the atmosphere before crashing and burning.

The rocketry simulation is challenging and fun, and now the development team is teasing fans in regards to what version 1.0 will bring. The first teaser video shows the long-awaited addition of Female Kerbals, with more to come during the week remaining until take off.

Among the list of other things to be added to the popular title are more realistic aerodynamics, better drag modeling, resources from planets and asteroids, a ton of overall fixes and many more tweaks, including heatshields and re-entry heat simulation.

In case you're wondering about the complexity of the game's simulation features, you can see this outline of the team's goals regarding aerodynamics to give you a general idea of what's going on.

In any case, it's an exciting announcement that many people have been eagerly waiting for. Kerbal Space Program will be fully available starting April 27, 2015, on Windows PC, Mac OS X and Linux.
