Kenwood recently decided to upgrade the popular Music Keg series of media players, with a brand new item, dubbed HD60GD9. Featuring no less than 60 GB of storage capacity, the manufacturers practically doubled the storage of the previous model, released a year ago.

Regarding the new media player's capabilities, it can deal with most of the file formats available on the market, such as unprotected AAC, not to mention the possibility of accessing CDs ripped in iTunes and all songs that have been purchased in iTunes Plus format.

As the company's representatives say, this time they focused their attention mostly on the sound performances, rather than on the looks or capabilities. Therefore, there is an updated Supreme EX decoder to incorporate the compressed music tracks.

In fact, Kenwood says the creators of these great media players even managed to build a vibration-free plastic and gel mount when designing the hard drive, as well as a non-magnetic metal frame used inside the device, to help the system prevent interferences. Besides that, the media player has it all. It looks stylish, it looks versatile and mostly it looks high-tech.

And when it comes to its capabilities, the media player was equipped to deal with the common MP3, WAV, WMA and more popular formats on the market. Its battery life was rated to last up to 20 hours of media playback.

If it matters to you, there is a also a special version with a gold plated inner frame, known as the HD60GD9EC, due to arrive at about the same time on the market, with a pretty spicy price tag of around 500 bucks a pop!

Regarding the pricing and availability details, the HD60GD9 media player is due to arrive in Japan by early October. Sadly, the pricing details are unknown for the time being. However, for reasons unknown, Kenwood avoided exporting its portable media players to North America. So, I'd like to know? why does it still use the English menu?
