Kendall Jenner is so determined to be taken seriously as a model that she’s even willing to throw caution and common sense out the window, and put herself in danger if that’s what it takes. A new report claims that the 18-year-old is pretty much starving herself these days to maintain her “model” weight.

Because she comes from such a wealthy and highly mediated family, the Kardashian – Jenner clan, Kendall has to work hard to prove that she didn’t get to where she is now in modeling just because of her last name. Which, by the way, she’s dropped and prefers to go just by Kendall.

According to the latest in Life & Style, she’s willing to sacrifice even more for the sake of a serious career in modeling.

Good health, who needs it?

That also includes her good health, according to an inside source speaking with the tab. Kendall has always been on the lean side, but pressure to “fit right in” with the other models means that she’s become acutely aware of every morsel that passes her lips and how it may affect her figure.

So, because she doesn’t want to be sidelined for being too “fat,” Kendall has stopped eating. “She wants desperately to be taken seriously as a model, and if it means starving herself, she’ll do it,” the insider says.

These days, Kendall gets by with up to 12 cups of detox tea and raw vegetables, the same unnamed source goes on to say. The model admitted that she drank a lot of this particular kind of tea to stay in the best shape during Paris Fashion Week, which saw her walk several catwalks, including for big fashion houses like Balmain.

“She’s become more controlling with food. During a recent family dinner, Kendall ordered just a bunch of raw veggies and nibbled on them,” explains the source.

The fashion and modeling industry sets up unrealistic expectations for women

Regardless if it’s true or not that Kendall’s been risking her own health in order to be taken seriously as a model and be able to forge a successful career out of it, there is a grain of truth in the report in that the fashion and modeling industry sets up very unrealistic expectations for women.

We know this for a fact, from the accounts of countless models who decided to speak up after years of suffering and abuse, lifting the lid on an industry that places a skeletal frame above health and / or happiness.

High fashion usually uses only size 0 models or a maximum of size 2, with any other size above that being labeled “plus-size.” That is to say, a very slender and thin woman in real life would be deemed “fat” by fashion people and would probably get the evil eye, along with strict indications on what she must do to shift some “extra” pounds.

More recent fashion shows have been marked by a certain tendency towards a bit more variety as regards body shape, but the reality remains that the predilection for size 0 remains and that, in most cases, it is achieved through a series of unhealthy practices.

Whether they’re chewing gum / drinking Red Bull and smoking all day, or eating cotton balls to get that “full” feeling in the stomach, girls working as models are still risking everything for a paycheck. If it’s true that Kendall is doing it too, she’s doing it for fame and a reputation – but the fact that she’s doing it is just as bad.
