There is no foundation for the backlash because Anna Wintour knows best

Had Kim Kardashian planned such a media coup as the one delivered by her Vogue cover, she would have probably fallen short. People haven’t stopped talking about the controversial issue of the magazine since last Friday, when the cover was unveiled but, as Kelly Osbourne sees it, we should all just shut up and enjoy the pretty pictures.

The main reason why Vogue is being criticized for putting Kim on the cover is that she’s a reality star: Vogue being a fashion publication, it makes no sense for Kim to be in it, even if she’s making an appearance as part of a family portrait, with fiancé Kanye West and their daughter North.

Anticipating the backlash, Anna Wintour, the Vogue editor-in-chief, issued a statement to say that she hadn’t offered Kim the cover because she’d given in to Kanye’s pleas. Kelly says: why is there a backlash in the first place?

In a post on her blog, the Fashion Police star compares the furor around Kim’s Vogue issue to that around the one that had Lebron James and Gisele Bundchen on the cover in 2008. She understands why people are upset, but she still wants them to shut up, more or less.

“There is no denying that it looks like a really beautiful picture for the cover of prom magazine so I understand why the fashionistas of the world would not like it. People are even going so far as to cancel their subscriptions or bloggers taking down the link to Vogue magazine,” Kelly says.

“I don’t want to even go into the awful things people have said about them. I find this disgusting. Regardless of whether or not you think Kim and Kanye are worthy enough be on the cover it is, it’s not your decision to make. I do believe that would be up to Anna Wintour,” she continues.

So, to put it differently: Kelly thinks that people who thought Kim and Kanye have no place on the cover of a fashion magazine should continue paying for it no matter what because Anna Wintour is like some sort of god.

There’s no denying that she is – and has been for decades – one of the most powerful people in the industry but it seems unfair to use that as an argument to continue buying a magazine who you feel was cheapened by Kim’s appearance in it. After all, people are free to spend their money as they see fit or, in this case, choose to not spend it on something they no longer support.

How does Kelly not see that?

“Sooooooo to all you people bashing Vogue, Kim, Kanye, and Anna stop and really think for a second because I am willing to bet my life that whether you recognize it or not somewhere hidden deep down inside of all of us is the dream of being on the cover of VOGUE!!! So back off stop [expletive]-ing on people’s dreams that have come true and try for once to be happy for other’s success. Stop raining on their parade!” Kelly continues.

She deserves credit for standing up to people and telling them to stop putting nasty things out there on the Internet, and for wishing Kim, Kanye, and Wintour peace to enjoy their moment. But, Kelly girl, you can’t tell people how to feel or how to react about one thing or another.
