Small app that keeps your Chrome up-to-date

Fans of Google’s new web browser can now check for the newest version available much easier by using an updater tool, which tells them whether a new version is available. The software is not entirely reliable (it may or may not work), but it does the job of fetching new Chrome for Mac releases, with multiple snapshots being available each day.

Naturally, the software is aimed at those eager to see the latest in the development of Chrome, as well as at those who don’t have a problem with unstable software (given that Chrome snapshots are also prone to buggy behavior).

“[...] Every day, several updates are released and you have to manually go to the site and scroll down a long list to find the newest version to download. So we’ve made an application that allows you to easily ensure that you have the latest version at all times,” the people at TechCrunch say.

“Our Mac Chromium Updater was built with the help of Greg Rosen, who created a script to check your version of Chromium versus the latest build. Then one of our developers, Hunter, created an Automator process so you don’t have to deal with installing something like Wget on your machine. The end result is a simple app that you run and let it update Chromium for you.”

A big disclaimer saying the software is untested and might not work properly is also provided with the download. “Use of it may have unintended and unpleasant consequences,” the warning continues. “There's a good chance you'll have problems with it, and we urge you not to use it unless you are very comfortable with buggy and possibly dangerous, untested software. Seriously, we have no idea what exactly this might do to your computer. We haven't really even tested it. So you've been warned.”
