They say Ke$ha is a love her or hate her type of pop star, but her performance on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live did not help her in any way as regards that former part. The singer did “TiK ToK” and “Your Love Is My Drug” live but, either because she came across as trying too hard or because she simply can’t quite pull it off, reviews are not good.

As Now Public can confirm, Ke$ha first took to the stage to perform her chart-topping “TiK ToK.” Dressed in a metallic suit with a cape of the American flag, the young singer cut an odd appearance, to say the least, reviewers seem to agree. Things only got worse later on, when she performed her new single, “Your Love Is My Drug,” for which she donned a glow in the dark paint “ensemble,” which made her seem even creepier.

“Kesha appeared on the April 17, 2010 edition of Saturday Night Live, giving two performances that left some folks confused. Kesha performed her hit Tik Tok and her upcoming single Your Love Is My Drug. Opinions are split on the Kesha SNL appearance, but there are plenty of folks who found Kesha’s performance to be perplexing to say the least. Kesha’s first song was Tik Tok, which she performed while wearing a metallic outfit and an American cape. The Wall Street Journal wrote that Kesha's attempt to become a pop diva fell a little short,” says the aforementioned e-zine.

“Kesha’s second performance would likely do little to quiet her critics. Kesha performed Your Love is My Drug wearing a black body suit covered in florescent paint. As she finished her performance, Kesha asked the audience: ‘It’s Saturday night, do you wanna make out?’ No doubt viewers thought, ‘uh, no thanks Kesha. We’re kinda not that into you. Stop trying so hard.’ The folks at Gawker TV noted that Kesha’s second SNL performance appears to have been lifted from a performance by Sia. The Australian singer used a body suit and glow-in-the-dark paint during a 2008 gig on the BBC show Later... with Jools Holland,” it is further being said.

Either way, the consensus seems to be that Ke$ha is trying too hard, which casts a shadow on her musical talent, if there’s any to speak of (this depends entirely on whom one asks, since there are many people out there who honestly believe she shouldn’t even dare call herself a “singer”). Then again, this could be entirely a matter of taste, as you can see for yourselves. Below are the two videos. Enjoy.
