Announcing Best Song nominees

This year’s edition of the MTV European Music Awards was hosted, just like in 2008, by the “I Kissed a Girl” star, Katy Perry. Aside from the many costume changes that contributed to what Katy herself described as a darker and edgier atmosphere, the hitmaker also took to the stage to perform – a medley of bits from the Best Song nominees.

Katy and a handful or equally scantily clad dancers introduced audiences to the Katy Kat Club, complete with full cabaret outfits, hats, glittery bow ties, corsets, chairs as props and, of course, cabaret-style dancing. It was Perry’s way of presenting the nominees in the Best Song category, by covering bits from the five tracks, namely “I Gotta Feeling” (Black Eyed Peas), “When Love Takes Over” (David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland), “Use Somebody” (Kings of Leon), “Halo” (Beyonce), and “Poker Face” (Lady Gaga).

Moreover, as E! Online also points out, the performance was nothing short of show-stopping, with Perry delivering very personalized versions of the aforementioned tracks, while also doing her best cabaret dancer impression. Just like Beyonce before her, with her performance of “Sweet Dreams” that we’ve been telling you about just hours ago, Perry’s too was definitely one of the highlights of the evening.

“When Katy Perry dons a corset and surrounds herself with dancers in retro lingerie... Well, she could be doing almost anything. But on this occasion she was mashing together the Best Song nominees at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Hosting the shindig in Berlin for the second year in a row, Perry got the party at the ‘Katy Kat Club’ going with a cabaret-style medley [of songs],” E! writes of the said performance. Check out the video below to see it in full.
