Katie Holmes is currently in Australia, shooting for “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” a horror where she plays the part of a woman stalked by evil spirits. While on the set working on a scene, a car exploded, sending sparks and fumes all over the place, just seconds after Holmes came out of it. The star was not hurt in the incident, Radar Online informs.

The explosion was not scripted and, as of now, no one seems to know its causes. Even though Holmes was unhurt in the incident, reports in the media claim she’s really “freaked out” right now, worrying about her safety on the set of the film. Being only seconds from some form of injury as she was with the exploding car does not, understandably, help calm her down, sources on the set reveal.

“Actress Katie Holmes narrowly escaped injury on the set of her upcoming movie, ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,’ in Victoria, Australia over the weekend. Holmes was shooting a scene inside a car when the vehicle’s battery exploded – sparking smoke and fumes – before the car then caught fire. The exploding battery was not a part of the film.” Radar Online says of the recent, unscripted incident.

Because of this, the actress might be considering adding an extra clause to her contract, to avoid mishaps like this one from further occurring, speculation in the media has it. Katie Holmes, an actress who has not had much contact with the movie world in recent years, save with minor exceptions, such as the comedy “Mad Money” and some minor parts in other productions, is no longer familiar with the risks that being on set occasionally entails, it is being said, therefore will ask for extra protection.

“Katie was very shaken by the ordeal. She took the rest of the day off while special effects staff looked over the faults. Katie has filmed scenes since but it has made her think about her safety on set. She will be shooting the same scene at a later date. She’s obviously very nervous about it.” an unnamed source tells the British tab the Daily Mail. “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” sees Holmes as a young step-mother-to-be doing her best to get into the good graces of her boyfriend’s (Guy Pearce) young daughter (Bailee Madison). The horror will hit theaters in 2011.
