14 DAY TRIAL // Jon and Kate Gosselin, stars of the highly successful reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” a series that documented their life as parents of 8, might have actually been deceiving the public for many months. Although they announced their divorce in June, the two had actually split long before that, a close pal tells People magazine.
If accurate, this report does beg the question: why would they stay together if they were clearly no longer in love with each other, several US media outlets point out. The answer to that is, of course, money or, to put it in more specific terms, the good ratings that the show had. Therefore, even if they were no longer a couple, it was good thinking to make it look as such since the show continued to be extremely successful, it is being said.
“The source says Jon and Hailey [Glassman], already acquaintances, began their romance only after Kate filed for divorce on June 20. According to the source, although the public did not know it, Jon and Kate actually split up late last year: ‘She said she wanted her life. She said she was done. It came out of the blue.’ Soon afterwards, Jon moved out of the couple’s bedroom and slept elsewhere in the house – and started going out to clubs and bars.” People writes, citing the unnamed but reportedly reliable source.
Of course, if this is true and Jon and Kate had actually split many months before their “shock announcement” on TV, it wouldn’t be the first time that they’re target to talk of being “phonies” and “pathological liars.” Of course, it is being said, everyone knows what to expect from reality television, namely, not to believe that what they show onscreen is 100 percent real (that is, not scripted in any way), but pretending to still be a family precisely on a family show might be a bit of a stretch.
Then again, nay-sayers argue, Kate Gosselin also pretends to be a loving mother when the reality is far from that. “When one of the boys closed a door on another one once, Kate got in their faces and yelled, ‘You tell me the truth about what happened!’ The children just stood there, terrified. Then she dragged one of the boys into the bathroom and spanked him five or six times with a large plastic mixing spoon. You could hear Kate forcefully whacking the child and the child screaming at the top of his lungs. People told me it happened more than once, but it was off-camera because Kate didn’t want it in the show.” an unnamed source was telling the media a while back as to Kate’s short-fuse temper and alcohol problem.
