14 DAY TRIAL // As the Jesse James cheating scandal rages on, a couple of tabloids are turning their attention from it to another story: the Kate Winslet – Sam Mendes split. Despite claims from both parties that the separation was amicable, sources tell OK! Magazine and the National Enquirer (story via here) that partly responsible for the decision was Kate’s relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio.
The two have remained close friends ever since they first worked together, on James Cameron’s blockbuster “Titanic.” They got their chance to share the same screen again in the drama “Revolutionary Road,” directed by Kate’s husband, Sam Mendes. They always insisted their bond was like that between siblings, but the tabs have sources (as usual, unnamed but admittedly reliable) that claim otherwise. In fact, the two are actually secret lovers, which is why Kate’s marriage fell apart.
“Now that Kate has officially split from her husband of nearly seven years, director Sam Mendes, insiders say the former co-stars’ ‘intense bond’ has gone beyond friendship. Leo was there for Kate when her marriage started to go south two years ago, around the time they reunited on screen in Revolutionary Road. The film was directed by Sam, who, an insider says, became uncomfortable with how cozy the co-stars were on set. ‘Kate became closer to Leo than ever,’ explains a friend. ‘And that became a problem: The more she drifted from Sam, the closer she got to Leo’,” OK! writes.
“There’s no question that Kate’s openly loved Leo for a very long time, and her feelings for him drove a wedge between her and Sam. Kate and Leo talk on the phone all of the time, and she opens up to him about absolutely everything. I think her relationship with Leo has made things with Sam unfixable. Kate knew her husband always sensed her closeness to Leo, which turned him off and made him think about where the marriage was headed. Finally, the two of them were honest with one another – Sam admitted he needed someone else in his life and Kate confessing she wanted to move on,” a more talkative insider reveals to the National Enquirer.
Earlier this month, we were telling you that other tabs blamed Mendes for the split saying, shortly after the separation announcement, that it was his relationship to actress Rebecca Hall that made his marriage to Winslet crumble to pieces.
