At the beginning of last year, high-end clothing brand St. John terminated the endorsement contract with Angelina Jolie, saying that she was too much of a celebrity and was “overshadowing” the brand. Kate Winslet is now the latest face and body for St. John.

Shots from the latest campaign have long emerged online and, now, the company has also released a behind-the-scenes / interview video with the Oscar-winning actress about why she agreed to be the spokesperson and what makes St. John so special.

It’s clear from the start that the ad is meant to show St. John as less high-end and more targeted to regular woman who just love quality clothes that come with timeless, elegant, classic designs.

Winslet, who’s always been very open about her weight struggles and her determination to never starve herself or push herself too much to be as thin as most women in Hollywood, even stresses: I don’t have a model’s body yet the clothes I wore for the shoot seemed made with me in mind.

“With St. John You can look extremely chic without trying too hard. You don’t feel as though they are clothes that only a model would be able to wear,” the actress says.

“And obviously I am not a model, I don’t have a model’s body, I have a real shape. And that just means a lot to me to be able to wear clothes that do embody that message of strength and power and femininity in a real shape…” Winslet further says.

Being part of the St. John family means more than just getting paid to promote clothes, she says, because the brand is all about making regular women, mothers feel that they too can look utterly stunning.

And it’s to these women that Kate wants to address with her campaign because it’s them who inspire her to always strive to perfect herself.

“I’m very much inspired by mothers, women who can pull it all together, do it all. Those are the women who are setting examples to a future generation of young women and that’s what I’m trying to do for my daughter,” Kate says.
