Kate Winslet is considered, of the many actresses that Hollywood has turned into stars, perhaps the only one to take the issue of image the only way she knows best, meaning, by making the public love her as she is, instead of trying to fit the stereotypes. To her own admission, she does not diet and has no plans of ever being as thin as other female stars, but that does not stop her from feeling “fat and unhappy” when in their company, as she has recently revealed in an interview.

“As a young girl, I never felt attractive. I was fat and unhappy at times, and that kind of thinking stays with you your entire life. There’s always going to be a part of me that worries about not looking as slim as other actresses.” Kate tells the media, after admitting that she used to be a chubby child. However, moments like these are rare now, the actress also reveals, since, in the meantime, she has learned to accept the body she has and, what’s most important, to make others accept it, as well.

Of course, there is also the issue of being appreciated for her work instead of simply for how she looks, and it is here that Kate has worked wonders. She is now one of the most appreciated actresses in Hollywood, and her talent is more than enough to make the public adore her, even if she does not comply with the standard of being stick thin. “At a certain point, when you achieve a lot of your goals and you can be proud of your work, you start to relax more about who you are. And that includes your appearance and self-image – I don’t think I look too bad for a mother of two.” Winslet adds.

As a side note, Kate Winslet has always been one of the few female stars to speak against Hollywood’s standards of beauty, saying that no one having a size 0 can be healthy if that is not the size they were born with. On more than one occasion, she said of the likes of Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham that it’s the image they send off that’s partly responsible for young girls who suffer from eating disorders, since it projects a reality that is often unattainable for regular people.

Kate is a svelte size 10, but she still admits to working out and eating healthy, which is, in her opinion, the best way to live a happy and healthy life, no matter what others have to say.
