In what can only be described as a very weird turn of event, the much coveted and widely disputed photo showing Kate Middleton's exposed posterior is going to end up making some money for the “Blue Mountains Bushfire Mayoral Relief Fund.”

What have the two things gotten in common? Well, a lot of things had to happen in a very precise order for this to take place, but unfortunately for Kate and the rest of the Royal family, they have, so let's go back to the roots of the problem.

Let's take the chronology of the story backwards into time. The scandal first emerged when an unapologetic German Magazine, Bild, published the uncensored photo of the Duchess with her posterior peeking out of her windblown dress.

It turns out that the photographer shopped the image to British media, where it would have been the most relevant, but according to some code of conduct, no magazine or newspaper would publish it. In the end, it was the Germans who bought it for an undisclosed sum.

Later, the British did run the photo, but they censored it, in order to protect the privacy of the woman that could be the next Queen of England. The Daily Mail made a big fuss over whether the Duchess of Cambridge was wearing underwear at the time of not. The photo makes it impossible to determine.

The Australian Daily Telegraph investigated further and found out the photographer was a local Aussie from the Blue Mountains, where the Royal couple were visiting at the time the indecent photo was snapped.

She told the newspaper that she almost deleted the photo at first, not knowing what it was. “It wasn't until I got home and I popped my camera card into the computer that I realized what I had captured.”

Her finger was on the delete button but she changed her mind at the last moment, when she realized that she could use it to raise money for charity. Not the most moral way to make some extra cash, but it's efficient.

And because Kate Middleton and husband Prince William took so much time talking to the victims of bushfires, Diane Morel, the woman who took the photo, decided she would give the money to the “Blue Mountains Bushfire Mayoral Relief Fund.”

The exact sum of money that is going to end up with the relief fund is still a mystery, simply because there is no clear indication just how much Diane got from the auction. Page Six reported that the scandalous picture was sold overseas in a frantic bidding war which was won in the end by the German Bild Magazine.

There is still no official statement from the Buckingham Palace at the moment, despite the fact that it's been over a week since the scandal has emerged. However, it's a known fact that the British Royal family is not keen on such invasions of privacy.
