Being in the public eye means having your every choice scrutinized and criticized. The new Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton is learning that with each day: designer Vivienne Westwood says she has a problem with makeup.

While promoting her latest accessories range (made from recycled rubbish in Kenya), in an interview cited by the Telegraph, the eccentric designer also gave her two cents on topics like Kate Moss’ fashion style, the John Galliano scandal and, last but not least, Kate Middleton’s makeup and style.

It’s a known fact that, at her own wedding, Kate chose to ditch the services of a professional and did her own makeup in what is now her traditional way: some eyeshadow on the upper lid and an eyeliner line on the lower one.

She has to go for a different style, Dame Viv, as she’s dubbed in fashion circles, says in the interview, because the one she’s using right now is not doing her any favors.

“I think she’s got a problem with eye make-up! The sharp line around her eyes make her look hard. Either she should be smudgy or wear none,” Westwood says of Kate’s makeup style.

The famous designer is not happy with the Duchess’ fashion style either, even though she was recently included on Vanity Fair’s annual international best dressed list.

“Let me put it this way. I t seems to me, that her image is ‘ordinary woman.’ Therefore, high street shopper. And I just think she should be an extraordinary woman, wherever she gets her clothes from,” Westwood says, suggesting Kate should aspire to more with her image.

Vivienne Westwood is not the only celebrity to speak against Kate’s style. Just recently, Kelly Osbourne, now a regular on E!’s Fashion Police with Joan Rivers, also said that the Duchess shouldn’t recycle clothes from one appearance to another.

Granted, Osbourne presented the problem in a different light, but the message was the same: if you’re to become the Queen of England, you can very well afford to have a new dress every day.
