Booker Prize winning author Hilary Mantel has launched a vicious attack against Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, saying she is nothing but a plastic princess whose sole purpose is to give birth, devoid of even the remotest traces of personality.

The Daily Mail reports that Mantel is now on the receiving end of a serious backlash from those feeling that her comments about the Duchess were out of line.

Among other things, Mantel compared Kate to Princess Diana and character Anne Boleyn, only to say that she (Kate) could not even hold a candle to such women.

“She said Kate had gone from being a ‘jointed doll on which certain rags are hung’ to a woman whose ‘only point and purpose’ was to give birth,” the Mail writes.

The author also said that the Duchess was just as fake as manufactured pop stars and that she had zero personality.

“Mantel said Kate ‘appeared to have been designed by a committee and built by craftsmen, with a perfect plastic smile and the spindles of her limbs hand-turned and gloss-varnished’,” the same publication writes.

As was to be expected, Mantel’s words did not fail to resound with the Brits, who immediately criticized her for them.

Among them is Prime Minister David Cameron, who released a statement on the issue though he was out of the country on vacation.

“He said that Hilary Martel is ‘a great writer’ but described her comments on Kate as ‘a hurtful thing to say,’ according to reports. He described the comments about the Duchess of Cambridge as ‘completely misguided and completely wrong’,” the aforementioned media outlet says.

So far, the Palace has refused to address the latest controversy. Chances are it won’t do so no matter how much more criticism comes Mantel’s way – and more will probably come.
