Kate Gosselin and her 8 children were back on television last night, when the first part of a new TLC special aired. The second part of Kate Plus 8: Sextuplets Turn 10 will air a week from now but whether people will still tune in for it is an entirely different matter, of course.

There are several unconfirmed reports right now online that viewership for the first part was far from what TLC bosses might have expected. They were probably counting on killer ratings because Kate Gosselin, though off TV for some time, remains pretty controversial.

However, there are strong indications that she’s no longer that single mother of 8 that people love to hate: they just hate her plain and simple these days. Whether people hate Kate with enough passion as to refuse to tune in altogether to anything she does still remains to be seen.

Kate for one seems to be doing her best to come across as one of the strictest persons on a five-block radius, even when it comes to her own kids.

OK! Magazine reports that the first part of the special showed her engaging in a game with the 8 children, which she simply refused to lose: not only did she not choose to sit on the side and let the kids have all the fun, but she actually decided she would not lose by choice, as a matter of principle.

“Hate away, but I have a problem with parents that let their kids win because nobody is gonna let me win,” Kate said.

Speaking to the camera, she described the game as “super fun” and further explained why she would not let the kids win. “While I'm saying do your best, try your hardest... why am I then in a fun game letting her win? The message carries over, do your best, work your hardest, try your hardest and if I'm not trying my hardest I'm not being an example of what I'm saying.”

Footage from the game even showed her shouting to her kids, “You're done, bam!,” which prompted more talk online that, though she seems to talk the talk and walk the walk, Kate is just mean to her own children.

The second part of the special will document Kate’s attempts at throwing a birthday party for the 10th birthday of the sextuplets that they and their best friends will remember for the rest of their lives. She’s thinking of doing a real-life carnival, as we have already seen in a teaser released by TLC yesterday.
