Love her or hate her, the truth is that Kate Gosselin continues to fascinate and get people’s attention. As she’s reportedly planning for a new reality show, possibly this time centering on her love life, the former “Jon & Kate Plus 8” star also saw to that she stepped into the new year as a new person, literally, with long hair extensions, People magazine informs.

The makeover lasted an estimated 20 hours but, with the help of celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson, who also did the hair of stars like Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway, the result was nothing short of stunning. Far from being just a vanity thing, the new hair is also meant to stand for a change for the better in her life, Mrs. Gosselin tells the magazine, in that she will have a fabulous 2010, no other way in between.

“It’s good to have hair again. I know this will be more upkeep than my old look, but I’m ready for it. I’m just grateful I don’t have to go through the awkward growing-out process of short hair. I get criticized for everything I do enough as it is! I’m starting over. It’s good to have hair again. I never thought I’d have short hair for as long as I did. I feel like this is a fresh start, a fresh me, a fresh life. I’m rebuilding. There’s no option for this not to be a good year. Now I get to start over with a new self and new goals,” the star says of her fabulous makeover.

Gibson, on his part, says that spending 20 hours working on Kate’s hair and putting in those many extensions was incredibly fun, though not many might see such an activity in this light. She was reluctant at first about the change and attaching extensions to her short hair proved quite a challenge but, in the end, it was all worth it, the famed hairstylist reveals.

“Kate was an absolute sweetheart, I loved her. Bonding extensions to those little hairs really took time. But in all those hours, she didn’t complain once. She was so open to whatever I suggested, and willing to try just about anything. She wasn’t sure about bangs. But I find many women have that one thing they’re afraid to let go of, that one ‘security blanket’ part of their look, whether it’s a fear of going shorter or darker or something. But once they finally let go and embrace the change, they always love it,” Gibson explains.
