Last week, Kate Gosselin brought twins Cara and Mady on The Today Show to talk about their parents’ divorce and covertly promote the idea for a new reality show. To her shock, the girls refused to speak when asked, but they fared much better on their appearance on The View.

Below is a video of the interview. It’s of poor audio and video quality, but it confirms that the girls seem to have overcome their fear of doing interviews, as they manage to laugh, joke, and address more serious topics as well.

They talk about their love for One Direction and Demi Lovato (Justin Bieber doesn’t get any show of support), about how annoying their six siblings are, the kind of chores they do around the house, and even how they handled their parents’ much mediated divorce.

As it turns out, there really wasn’t that much handling to do, they say. Because they were so young, they didn’t really see the nasty side of the Jon – Kate divorce as it played out in the media. Kate feels the need to cut in at this part in the interview, to speak of how she keeps all her kids sheltered from this kind of things.

The girls even say that it was their mother who had the hardest challenge to face in the divorce – almost as if they’d been coached beforehand on what to say, some might argue.

In an earlier interview with People magazine, the twins had said that the divorce had been very rough on them because they got to see their father parade his many girlfriends around the house. Jon refuted this claim, saying that he only dated 3 women at the time, only 2 of which he brought home.

Towards the end of the chat with the ladies on The View, Cara and Mady say that they don’t want to grow up to be actors but reality stars, saying they’re hoping for a new series soon.

That should do away with whatever doubt you still had about the purpose of these interviews Kate has been doing recently (and dragging her kids along too): she’s hoping for a new series.
