The vampire Selene was cool before vampires were “in” again thanks to YA novels and film adaptations. She first appeared in “Underworld” in 2003 and was last seen in “Underworld: Awakening” in 2012, her fourth movie.

Selene will be back to the big screen, with actress Kate Beckinsale confirmed to reprise the role for the fifth time in an upcoming “Underworld” installment. This time, a female director will be at the helm, which marks a first for the franchise.

Anna Foerster has an impressive resume as second-unit director and has worked with Roland Emmerich as DP on “White House Down” and “The Day After Tomorrow.” In terms of action movies, she learned from one of the best.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms the film, adding that Theo James, who appeared in “Awakening” for the first time and is now best known to audiences as Four in the “Divergent” series, will also be coming back.

Not much is known of the plot for the time being, with THR saying that it’s being kept under wraps. However, it is said “to focus on a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races.” This isn’t saying much, as fans of the franchise probably know: this is what all “Underworld” movies are all about.

Shooting will take place in Prague in October, so perhaps a mid- to late-2016 release date is in the books.
