14 DAY TRIAL // “Underworld” star Kate Beckinsale is considered by the vast majority – and not fans alone – an extremely endearing celebrity and, at the same time, one of the most stylish and beautiful presences on the scene at the moment. Esquire magazine has just named her the hottest woman for 2009, a distinction other female stars can only dream of, but that she refuses to take too seriously, lest it should get to her head.
As part of the “deal” of being named the ultimate hotness for an entire year is also an interview, which Esquire conducted with Beckinsale in a typically girlie location, as per her specific desire. Still, there are very few girlie things about the actress, from her usual attire, complete with knee-long, leather boots and skull rings, to her carefree attitude and her apparent inability to stop saying whatever goes through her mind. As a matter of fact, Esquire concludes, the only girlie thing about her is her breathtaking, natural beauty, which seems only more obvious as she appears oblivious to it.
Perhaps this is also why Beckinsale would not make too much of the distinction bestowed upon her by the latest issue of the mag. That, and not wanting to get beaten up by her brothers, she jokes. “This whole notion […] is going to earn me quite a beating. You can’t have that title with four brothers. I’ll get wedgies. Headlocks. Noogies. If you’re any kind of a human, you know the title is utterly ludicrous. But I like the idea of it, too. I do. I’m feeling that I must earn this. I need to go out and become much better at pole dancing or something.” Kate says.
The Esquire interview also includes some info on Kate’s acting career, which, as fans know, does comprise a handful of action movies. It’s not because they require less acting that she likes doing them, as some – more skeptic – critics have suggested, but rather because they represent a challenge on more levels, because one also has to see to the physical aspect of the role. Yet, there are few things that Kate doesn’t like about action films, she says, and that’s that they make her think she can actually do all those things she only pretends to do in front of the camera.
“What’s dangerous about doing action movies is that I’m used to men on wires. I punch a guy and he flies over a wall. So I tend to feel like that’s me that did that. Which leads me to the fact that yes, I do think I could kick your [expletive]. I know I can’t, though. Sometimes, I’ll get going with my brother, we’ll wrestle, and he’ll hold me down. Once you’re pinned by someone who weighs twice as much as you do, there really isn’t much you can do […]. I do tend to walk around like a Chihuahua in my house. You know, one of those little dogs that sees the big dogs and starts giving them attitude? I’m a Chihuahua with the soul of a lion.” the actress explains.
