Ever since it was announced that Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast in the highly anticipated “Star Trek 2,” it was assumed he'd be playing the villain. However, everyone involved did their best not to reveal which villain that would be – until now, that is.

In a new interview to promote his latest film “Dredd,” Karl Urban, who plays Bones in the film, actually let slip the identity of the villain played by the “Sherlock” star, SFX informs.

“He’s awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary,” Urban told the press, apparently revealing the one thing everyone else has been trying to hide – and fans have been dying to learn.

“It’s exciting news – if it’s true. For the uninitiated, Gary Mitchell first appeared in original series episode 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' as an old academy acquaintance of Kirk who ends up transformed into a wrathful God-like antagonist after encountering the galactic barrier,” SFX says of the character.

This isn't the first time that the name comes up in conversation on the main villain in the sequel, though it's the first in terms of coming close to a confirmation that Cumberbatch will be playing him.

“Star Trek 2” is scheduled for theatrical release on May 17, 2013.
